FAQS

About C4L

Who is directly involved with C4L?

The Life Team is made up of families that faithfully provide support to abortion-minded mothers on a consistent basis.  This team of families consists of moms, dads, children, grandparents, and teenagers, all willing to stand for LIFE right where abortion-minded mothers need them most - at the abortion mill.  Behind the scenes is our Life Network, which consists of various pro-life ministries, doctors, adoption agencies, etc. that provide immediate care and support to abortion–minded mothers.  C4L acts as a bridge from the front lines to these support ministries.

How long has C4L been around?

Pro-life ministries in the Charlotte area have been around for decades.  We are a connected community of Jesus followers dedicated to uniting those who stand for life in all their various capacities for the purposes of ending abortion.  Since October 2008 there has been a renewed faithful presence of Christians consistently bringing LIFE to the three local abortion mills in Charlotte.  C4L was established in December 2010 to connect and support all of these individuals and ministries, and to encourage the local church to partner with us in this battle.

What’s different about C4L?

We aren’t primarily a pro-life fundraising group or political lobby, rather, we bring real life support to abortion-minded mothers right where they are.  We lovingly step into their lives in tangible ways and show the love of Jesus.  Take a moment to view our code of conduct signed by all C4L leaders and participants.  We are a people of action!  C4L provides many opportunities to engage in pro-life work at both the individual and corporate level.

How can you compare abortion to the holocaust?

The Holocause is responsible for the murder of approximately 6 million Jews and millions of others. Abortion is responsible, as of 2010, for the murder of 52 million babies and that number is still rising.

The below story sums it up the best:

"SING A LITTLE LOUDER"
by Penny Lea
I lived in Germany during the Nazi holocaust. I considered my-self a Christian.  I attended Church since I was a small boy.  We had heard the stories of what was happening to the Jews, but like most people today in this country, we tried to distance ourselves from the reality of what was really taking place.  What could anyone do to stop it?

"A railroad track ran behind our small church, and each Sunday morning we would hear the whistle from the distance and then the clacking of the wheels moving over the track.  We became disturbed when one Sunday we noticed cries coming from the train as it passed by. We grimly realized that the train was carry-ing Jews.  They were like cattle in those cars!

"Week after week that train whistle would blow. We would dread to hear the sound of those old wheels because we knew that the Jews would begin to cry to us as they passed our church. It was so terribly disturbing!  We could do nothing to help these poor miserable people, yet their screams tormented us. We knew exactly at what time that whistle would blow, and we decided the only way to keep from being so disturbed by the cries was to start singing our hymns.  By the time the train came rumbling past the church yard, we were singing at the top of our voices.  If some of the screams reached our ears, we'd just sing a little louder until we could hear them no more. Years passed and no one talks about it much anymore, but I still hear that train whistle in my sleep.  I can still hear them crying out for help.  G-d forgive all of us who called ourselves Christians, yet did nothing to intervene."

Proclaim

Why are they called “abortion mills?”

The term “clinic” defines a place of health care.  More truthfully, however, the term “mill” defines a business that dispenses service in an impersonal or mechanical manner, as in a factory.

Aren’t you just protesters?

Protesting is stating what you are against; Proclaiming is stating what you are for. We are for Life and helping others to make that difficult choice.  It is a proclamation of Hope in Jesus followed by tangible support to mothers that makes this a proclamation and not a protest. Working with other ministries and individuals, we’re creating a network of believers that don’t show up empty-handed to simply protest.  We do not shy away from exposing the truth of what abortion really is, but our core focus is the proclaim Jesus and provide support to the hurting.

Why do you hold the graphic signs?

Women are rarely told the truth about abortion.  Without the truth, Satan is free to rob, kill, and destroy.  It is urgent for these women to know the truth about this hidden evil, done in secret. We must lay bare the demonic lie that an unborn baby is not a human life. When we shine the light of truth about this "legal" procedure, it wakes up the sleeper and moves them to action. Truth can be horrific, just as the photos of the Jewish Holocaust, KKK hangings and other genocidal pictures have been shown to the masses to cause them to recoil in horror so that society will not commit those crimes again.  Evil needs to be seen to prevent re-occurrence.  These images of abortion will forever change the way people look at abortion

We also show real images of babies saved from abortion so that the mothers can quickly see the difference between the violence of abortion and the sweetness of new life.

Is it legal to do this?

Absolutely.  First of all, we abide by the laws of the land (see our Code of Conduct ).  Secondly, we have connected with pro-life attorneys around the country that are available to consult/defend us if our rights are stripped from us while peacefully providing Life.

Is it safe?

When light displaces darkness there will always be tension.  Because you have the freedom of speech in America, you always have the right to speak the truth without the fear of threat or intimidation by others.  However, threats and intimidation are most likely exactly what you will receive.  We have nothing to fear.  We are safer in front of an abortion clinic than in the comfort of our own homes watching prime time television.

How do you interact with abortion-minded mothers?

First, in Titus 2 style, woman to woman and mother to mother, sidewalk counselors speak to women in a loving/helpful tone. They provide a host of information about their unborn baby and offer real choices to these mothers. Some women share their post-abortive experience, others information about the baby’s development, and others about their adoption experiences. Because of buffer zones, there are often limitations on interaction; therefore, a microphone is used to prevent yelling. Secondly, men are often the ones interacting and communicating with the men that have driven their wife/girlfriend/sister to the mill. Not only is hope offered, but a clear communication of the Gospel message, as well.

What should I expect the first time I go out?

We would recommend that the first time you come out you commit to prayer during that time. Check out some questions about praying at the mill  below. When you contact us, we’ll connect you to a leader at the specific mill who can answer more of your questions about scheduling, parking, etc. You can expect to be disturbed.  We’ve heard comments of how “dark” and “depressing” it was; how “sad” or “grieved” they felt. Some experience anger, indignation, or repulsion. It is a mission field, and you will be coming face to face with sin. As with any spiritual battle, be prepared for it to take a certain toll on you. One hour would be a good start if it is your first time.

What about my children?

The Kingdom of God advances through families on a mission.  The very presence of family speaks to a woman who is considering abortion.  There are several families that minister on a regular basis with even the youngest of children.  Abortion can be explained to even the smallest child in terms they can understand.  Our Family Team can help you prepare for ministering with your children.

Could you come to my church to talk about this?

Absolutely! We want to encourage and exhort the body to take a stand on this issue. Consider sending this short video or our website to your pastor or Sunday school teacher. If you contact us through the Get Involved button, we will be happy to set up a time to speak to your church.

Pray

What should I pray for before going to an abortion clinic?

We intercede for the staff, the mothers, the fathers, the babies, anyone who may be involved in the life ending process.  Praying at an abortion mill allows for more informed prayer, on-site intercession, and prayerful intervention in many cases.  Simply let the Holy Spirit lead you.

Are you affiliated with a specific denomination?

No. You can view our Code of Conduct here for any individuals standing with Cities4Life. We are representatives of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and carry His burden for unborn babies and hurting individuals who need to hear the truth spoken in love.

Will I be out there alone?

No! C4L would like to link you with other believers who are already praying at the abortion mills. To contact the leader of the mill closest to you click here. They will provide you with details about each specific location in terms of parking, expectations, and even specific names of staff and abortionists for whom you can intercede.

Provide

Who would I contact about helping with the baby shower items?

Click on the Get Involved button and we will connect you with Sheryl Chandler of Truth and Mercy Ministries

How can I sign up my church/myself in the mentor program?

We would love to have you, either corporately or as a family, take a mother or couple under your wings. You can let us know how you would like to help and sign your church up with our Life Network.

What are the most pressing needs right now?

We have a mobile ultrasound unit available, but we do not have enough RN’s to staff it. It is an invaluable tool in front of the abortion mill, but cannot be utilized without more nurses. We also have a need for women drivers, as many mothers who have changed their minds do not have adequate transportation to their prenatal appointments. And finally, we need more churches and individuals willing to mentor a pregnant woman who has chosen Life. Since we have women who come from multiple counties and states, feel free to share our vision with your friends and family throughout North and South Carolina, and even Tennessee and Georgia.

I don’t live in the Charlotte area, can I still do something?

Yes! Women drive from SC, even as far as VA, and from all over NC to get abortions in Charlotte. We would love to have you in our Life Network in case mothers from your area come to Charlotte for an abortion. We’ll give you plenty of other ways to get involved in the meantime.

What can my class, church group do?

You could throw a shower for a mom who changed her mind from death to life!  Our Life Network partner, Truth & Mercy, can show you how. Or you could host a fund raiser to help C4L purchase LIFE support materials for families on the front lines. One church group collected items and stuffed the small gift bags that are handed out with literature to women who come to the abortion mills. They sky is the limit, so think big and C4L will help to implement!

Who else do you work with?

There have been so many in our area that have been faithful to serve women in need. The body of Christ is made up of many parts and many have already networked to serve women in the Charlotte area.

Check out Our Life Network

How do I ask my OB/GYN to do what those doctors in your network do?

Let us send you an explanation letter from the wonderful doctors that work with our front-line folks. Just use the Get Involved button and we will get you connected.

Where will my donations be used?

We’d love for you to give with a specific purpose if you’d like for things such as pro-life literature, baby shower items, adoption services, crisis ministry follow up…there are many opportunities. A general donation would be used where it was most needed.
